Information on the yellow fever vaccine

WHAT IS IT?

The yellow fever vaccine is used to prevent infection by the virus of yellow fever.

It is recommended that yellow fever immunization for all persons within 9 months of age and older who travel or living in parts of Africa, South America and other countries where yellow fever infection. Furthermore, people are traveling to countries requiring vaccination Yellow fever (vaccination certificate) should be immunized. You also need immunization against yellow fever for others who may come in contact with the virus of yellow fever.

All children from 6 to 9 months of age and pregnant women should be immunized only if they have to travel to areas where There is an epidemic of yellow fever can not be protected against mosquito bites.

Infants 4 to 6 months old may be vaccinated if there is a high risk of infection by yellow fever.

We do not recommend vaccination against yellow fever in children younger than 4 months old, because they have a higher risk of effects serious side of this vaccine.

The certificate of vaccination against yellow fever is effective 10 days after the first immunization and lasts 10 years. If you receive a second vaccine against yellow fever within 10 years after the first injection, a vaccination certificate in force the day after the second immunization.

The yellow fever vaccine is given only at the Centers for vaccination against yellow fever authorized. Your state health departments, provincial or local can tell where to find these sites.

BEFORE USING

Tell your doctor, nurse or pharmacist if you. . . . .

  • are allergic to any medications, whether prescribed or not;

  • are pregnant or plan to become pregnant while taking this medicine;

  • are breast-feeding;

  • are taking any other medicines or no treatment or had x-rays or medications that may decrease the body's protection against infection, such as those used for organ transplantation (eg, cyclosporine), cancer

  • drugs or corticosteroids

  • have other medical problems, including a weakened immune system (or family history of) or severe illness with fever.

SIDE EFFECTS

Side effects that you should inform your doctor immediately

Rare - Confusion, convulsions, cough, palpitations, burning, numbness or tingling in the skin, headache (severe), nervousness or irritability, redness of the rash or itching, sneezing, stiff neck, vibrations in the ears, difficulty breathing or swallowing, unusual tiredness or weakness, vomiting

The effects side usually does not require medical attention

These side effects usually disappear as your body adjusts to the vaccine, however, if they continue or are bothersome, check with your doctor, nurse or pharmacist.

Less common - Fever (mild), headache (mild), muscle pain, at the injection site

Other side effects not listed above may also occur in some patients. If you notice any other effects, check with your doctor, nurse or pharmacist.
