It is "the home PC and laptop repair a good idea?

Personal computers and business are now center stage in the storage sensitive information. Should I be worried about mobile inspections in the U.S. Customs?

Hi guys, hope you can answer my question here. As So I am going to the U.S. for a vacation with my parents. I am planning to take my laptop with me so I can keep in touch with my friends here in the Philippines and to kill time while I am doing nothing. The thing is that my brother just told me the other day that the U.S. Customs randomly chosen Portable "inspection" purposes. Therefore, you should be worried? I really do not want to resort to encryption, since they do not know how to make it work, but if it makes my way to the States much smoother, then I think I have no choice. All I have on my laptop are some MP3, lots of photos from boards of image, anime, freeware, and other things. I think I have nothing to hide, but better safe than sorry. So what do I do? Help is much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Seriously, do not worry! Chances are very small, seeking, and probably have nothing to even be interested Just make sure you have nothing overtly illegal in it. Since it is so hard to say if mp3s were legally obtained (ie, you own the CDs and ripped oneself files) should not be a problem. Downloaded movies can be a major problem (especially if they are not on DVD yet). Just make sure that no child pornography on his machine. Currently, the number of laptops that are being searched is quite low. You should not have nothing to worry about encryption, and the biggest risk to corporate information is proprietary and secret. I travel a bit for work, and we have been advised by the company to try not to take too private corporate data on our laptops in case they're looking for, but that's all. In fact, even with hundreds of people traveling within and outside the U.S. every week, I know we've really had searched at customs portable to all! So I would not worry at all if I were you. Even if by some chance they asked to search the computer, as long as you're not taking terrorist plans or child pornography, probably the worst thing happen only be an annoying wait while glanced.
