Testing a Laptop Battery

Hook your laptop battery up to a multimeter. Follow the process in Step 2 to connect the meter and determine how much charge is left in the battery. Most multimeters are electronic, but some have gauges that move to a certain point.

Test your laptop battery with a test light. Check the test light first to make sure it works. Connect the light to a metal ground source. Check the test light on a battery that you know works. If the test light glows, it's good. Place the light's test end into the battery's positive port. If the light glows, your battery is good.

1. As with any type of battery, your HP Pavilion laptop's battery will die at some point. If your laptop battery is not holding a charge, it is important to know for sure that your battery is dead. Power on your computer with the AC power adapter unplugged. If the laptop doesn't power up, connect the power adapter and turn on the computer.

Dell laptops use rechargeable lithium ion batteries for power when the laptop is not connected to the AC power adapter. The batteries allow the laptop to run for a limited period of time before the laptop must either be connected to an electric outlet or have the batteries recharged. The batteries have a lifespan of around two years, or 400 discharge/charges. After that time, the battery may begin to lose its efficiency and hold a charge for less time, or not charge at all.

Turn the laptop off. Plug the AC power adapter into the laptop. Allow the battery to completely charge for eight hours.

Unplug the power adapter. Turn the laptop on. If the laptop does not turn on, the battery did not charge and should be replaced.

Allow the computer to remain on, using battery power. Time how long it takes for the battery to run out of life. Once the battery runs out of life, the computer will turn off. A Dell lithium ion battery should last for around three hours, based on many circumstances, such as the operating system and user activity. If the battery lasts for less than two hours, it's time to think about replacing the battery.

please help troubleshoot my laptop?

got this laptop the battery light is on when plugged in my harddrive is light is on also the power light is on but nothing no fan is running i don't hear it trying to read hard drive just completely dead there is no video any suggestion what my problem is these lights do not turn off when i am plugged into outlet or when i put my battery in
there is no beeps

It is hard to understand what you are saying, but do this:

Hold the power button in until the laptop turns off. It will probably take 10 long seconds. Then try to turn it back on.

It sounds like it might have gone into "hibernation". Go to "Control Panel", and then "Power Management" or power settings, and change the options there.
