Electronic Paper Technology: Tomorrow € ™ s paper
According to Judy Rodrigrues Greenpeace International:
€ œOur goal is to generate a society-wide understanding of the need to reduce paper use and waste to help consumers large and small to take action to make real reductions.â €
On 09 June 2008, about fifty-European non-governmental organizations, environment initiated a project to address the excessive consumption of paper. They invited individuals and business users to make a commitment to reduce paper consumption on the site website they created for this purpose shrinkpaper.org.
About 42 percent of timber produced in the world enters the pulp and paper.
If we can eliminate the need for paper in the future, may significantly reduce the rate of deforestation. Development of electronic paper technology, such as electronic ink made by E Ink Corporation, will bring us closer to a greener future. Leta € ™ s, in this article, a look at the electronic paper technology and progress.
What is paper?
Unlike LCD, LED, or CRT display system, electronic paper technology attempts to achieve clarity, contrast and easy viewing of plain paper into an electronic display.
The technology behind electronic paper is thirty years old, which was developed at Xerox PARC (Palo Alto Research Center). Nicholas K. Sheridon at Xerox PARC created a new display technology called Gyricon (from Greek: â € ~ rotation Imageo € ™), which became the basis for modern e-paper technology.
The ideal modern electronic paper must have a high contrast like normal paper and low power consumption, but must be thin and light. The electronic paper display (EPD) is so slight that can be folded or bending, while retaining the image. In addition, the EPD should not lose the image even if the power supply is not available. These concepts were used in the production of products such as Fujitsu PC material, which is a laptop that uses electronic paper screen is very light and not easily damaged.
Electronic ink technology
At the forefront of electronic ink technology to screen two companiesâ € "E Ink Corporation in Cambridge, Massachusetts (recently acquired by Prime View International, Taiwan) and Xerox (through its subsidiary, Gyricon media) Palo Alto, California.
E Inka € ™ s display technology is already in general use in devices such as Amazon Kindle, Sony Reader, iRex iLiad, and many other electronic book readers.
E Inka € ™ s electronic ink used a type of clear liquid plastic with millions of microcapsules, which are small (almost the diameter of one of our hair) spherical objects. The microcapsules containing white and black color chips. The white chips are positive charge and black chips are negatively charged. This electronic ink is coated with an ultra-thin plastic sheet containing a small printed circuit board. This circuit can selectively send the positive and negative charges for copying e-ink, making removal chips, thereby altering the screen.
Electronics Book: The Future
BusinessWire reported recently that electronic reading devices have increased the production of 1.1 million units in 2008 to 20 million units in 2012. The cumulative annual growth, according to iSuppli analyst Vinita Jakhanwal, is about 105 percent.
The development of the electronic paper technology has accelerated as the public became fond of the new devices e-book reading. The Oprah Winfrey Show endorsed Amazon Kindle, and Oprah called â € ~ his favorite gadget € ™, Kindle becoming very popular among readers of books. E Ink Corporation and Prime View International next support at around 20 manufacturers of e-book devices, like Amazon and Sony. According to the digital book readers, the introduction of e-ink technology in use in the home, curricula of schools, library facilities, and the use of business offers a win-win scenario with the benefits to be had at all angles.
The major drawback of the computer screen is that it is not nearly as readable as paper, itâ € ™ s too shiny and can test your eyes. This is why do people still prefer printed paper. In addition, electronic paper looks exactly like paper. The technology will dramatically change the way people read books. You may have small hand-held readers and hundreds of thousands of books, reading as accurately as a normal printed book.
Tomorrow € ™ s books will never be damaged. Once readers become universal, traditional printing will be history. You can download the books purchase directly to his reader, and that can have huge savings in time and money. The delivery of newspapers and magazines also be in new Waya € "electronically.
Electronic ink is not only to print on plastic panels, but can be printed on normal walls, their shirts, tablecloths, and almost any surface. Thus, in the future can change your wallpaper with the click of a button.
One conclusion
The advantage important technology of electronic paper is that paper is no longer necessary, and trees neednâ € ™ t be cut for paper production. Thus, electronic paper will take us closer to a better, greener world.
