Laptop Minimum Requirements
Dell Inspiron XPS M1210 Laptop Review
Today we see an exciting ultra-compact notebook optimized for today € ™ s life and travels. The system Dell Inspiron XPS based on the Intel Merom proved an excellent solution. Read more in our magazine!
The life of a truly modern man is like a train that is steadily accelerating its station to an unknown destination. It's getting faster and faster all the time, and thereâ € ™ s not stop or even pause in this process. Life at high speed, modern man refers to time as a great value. Some people are even dreaming of overtime on the day of monthly summary on additional days. To avoid unrealistic as discussed in dreaming, you can make good use of the hours that youâ € ™ d only waste otherwise. You only need a portable camera companion, a laptop computer.
However there is a list of minimum requirements this digital companion must meet to satisfy its owner. The notebook should be light and small, but easy to work. It must have high performance but the components cheap so you can last long into the Dell XPS battery m1210Â. A wide selection of wireless interfaces would also be welcome in a travelogue. A good graphics subsystem may also be useful for the user could relax a bit in some game.
Do you think itâ € ™ s impossible? Absolutely! The Dell Inspiron XPS M1201 is a clear example. Depending on the configuration, this 12â € cutie (that fits easily within the dimensions of A4 paper format and therefore in any briefcase or bag) can satisfy anyone who is spending much of his life traveling. The appearances are often deceptive, and a cursory Inspiron XPS M1210 Wona € ™ t you know that this laptop has one of the most advanced in today € ™ s mobile CPUs, along with a subsystem of powerful graphics. Not all XPS M1210 marked as a discrete graphics solution on board, however. There is a version that has enormous computing power, but is weak in 3D and gaming applications because it uses the graphics core integrated Graphics Media Accelerator 950.
Itâ € ™ s the latter version of the book that wea € ™ ve got for our tests. The Dell Inspiron XPS M1210 is based on a core CPU Merom architecture with the micro base. The Merom is different from the previous core Yonah in some respects. First, the Intel Core 2 Duo T7600 has 4 MB of L2 cache. The execution pipeline is almost the same duration on all CPUs with the Core architecture, however, is longer by two stages in the Core 2 Duo. The most notable improvement Intel's support is € ™ s 64-bit extensions to the x86 architecture called Intel Wide Dynamic Execution which means the CPU core is now more decoders and the execution units. Treatment of SSE and floating point instructions has accelerated. With all these innovations, the Merom core has a typical dissipation 34W heat compared to Yonah ™ € s 31W. The remainder of the Napa platform components are left unchanged and the CPU socket will remain the same until the next transition to the Santa Rosa platform.
The stickers they put on the notebook case are the same too, except that the Core 2 Duo Intel Inside label now has the number 2, representing Merom. Centrino Duo logo doesn € ™ t allowed to say exactly the CPU is in notebook.
Our tests show how crucial parameters such as laptop battery life and performance have been affected by technical innovations. But first wea ll ™ € examine the Dell Inspiron XPS X1210 carefully from all sides. Wea € ™ ll also take a laptop Asus W5F as an opponent to the Inspiron. The ASUS laptop has a similar hardware configuration but different CPUs with different clock frequencies. The XPS M1210 is based in a Merom-core processor with a frequency of 2.33 GHz while the W5F ASUS has a 2.0GHz Yonah core CPU (which is the highest frequency of the CPU across all processors Intel Core Duo ™ € wea I tested in our labs).
Design and ergonomics
The first thing to realize of the Dell Inspiron XPS M1210 is its smooth contour. The front is slightly rounded, giving the laptop look very neat. The lid is covered with black plastic and has a silver band with the name of the series, near the display hinges. On the front panel is a small ledge of chrome plated to make it easier for you to lift the lid up. The sides of the lid are half painted silver to match the top of the notebook ™ € s body. The rest of the body is painted black.
The manufacturer put its logo in the center of the lid.
Before opening the notebook, you can take note of the three connectors in front. One is a microphone input and the other two are identical headphone outputs. There is a very common solution, allowing you to enjoy the capabilities XPS M1210 multimedia battery "> Inspiron XPS M1210 battery together with his friend, while on an airplane, for example.
Above connectors There is a block of multimedia buttons highlighted in blue when the notebook is turned on. These buttons are (from left to right):
* Mute On / Off
* Volume Down
* Volume Up
* Play / Pause
* Previous Track
* Next Track
* Stop
We donâ t ™ € these buttons are really necessary for an ultra-compact model, unless you are going to use as a player. Due to the small size of the notebook, which is almost certain to press the multimedia buttons, not wanting his wrists, while youâ € ™ re using the touchpad.
The screen does not have a lock as is typical of such portable form factor. Mechanisms built into the hinges of the lid of the press until the notebook ™ € s body, and you have to exercise some force to lift. The color scheme inside is all silver, including the case of magnesium, keyboard, touch screen and the bezel of the screen. There are rubber bumpers on the bezel for softer contact between the screen and the notebook ™ € s body. Centered below the screen is the Dell logo.
The Dell Inspiron XPS M1210 may come with an optional 1.3-megapixel Web camera that can turn around 180 degrees. It resembles the one installed on the ASUS W5F. Our notebook didnâ € ™ t have the camera, however.
In addition to manufacturing ™ € s logo, there are two sound stereo speakers on the bezel, the screen below. Are covered with grilles and head right into the user. This location is good because the speakers Wona € ™ t Get plugged into anything.
The hinges of the protrude from the notebook screen ™ € s of the body, allowing it to deploy more than 180 degrees as shown in the picture below:
The Dell Inspiron XPS M1210 is equipped with a 12.1 widescreen display with a € a maximum resolution of 1280Ã-800 pixels and an aspect ratio of 16:10 (WXGA). The horizontal viewing angle seems to be great, but the vertical is narrow, even visually. The vitreous coating of the screen makes the colors more saturated (Dell TrueLife), but also produces rashes inadequate lighting conditions and reflects each well-lit object behind your back.
We measured the brightness and contrast of the notebook ™ € s monitor with the Pantone ColorVision Spyder with Optical software version 3.7.8. We selected the brightness highest possible setting before this test, but would be much smaller when the laptop on its battery, automatically enabling the energy saving measures. The measured values of brightness are high, but the contrast ratio isnâ € ™ t:
AC power supply:
* 110.1cd/sq.m brightness, contrast ratio 27:1
DC power supply:
* 90.9cd/sq.m brightness, contrast ratio 27:1
The s ™ € notebook keyboard has 84 keys silver with a smooth and slightly rough surface. The arrow keys fell below the keyboard ™ € s reference to reduce the risk of your pressing them accidentally. The Fn button is located on the bottom left of the keyboard, next to the Ctrl key, which is in the corner. This is convenient for people who are used to shortcuts like Ctrl + C or Ctrl + V. Number buttons and two Windows keys are available: the Context Menu key is a key to the left of the spacebar and the Windows logo is on the right of the spacebar. The functional buttons are smaller than others. PgUp and PgDn are placed under the Intro. Home, end, insert and delete are in the same row with the functional buttons (it needs to push along with Fn to access their additional functions). The letters are painted black, the functional keys are blue.
Bank and test methods
The ™ € s notebook hard drive was formatted in NTFS before the tests. After installing Microsoft Windows XP Professional SP2 with DirectX 9.0c, system drivers (from the disk included) and Windows Media Encoder 9.0 with Windows Media Player 9.0. Also Windows Media Player 10.0 for testing, such as PCMark 2005 and SYSmark 2004 SE.
The following settings were used for testing:
* From energy saving services â € "Off
* Audio Subsystem â € "Off
* Network Services â € "Off
* Maximum screen brightness
* Resolution Full Screen (1440Ã-900)
* Windows Taskbar is unlocked
* Windows Taskbar hides automatically
* Classic Desktop Theme
* No background image on the desktop
* No screensaver
* Low security
* Block pop-ups disabled
There were two exceptions: we returned to the theme of Windows XP desktop for PCMark 2005 since the program requires. And for SYSmark 2004 SE to work normally, we had to shoot each parameter to its default (as are established immediately after installing Windows).
Two power modes were used. First, we selected the Always On power mode for maximum performance and shorter life of the battery. Then change to the Max Battery mode battery for maximum downtime.
Our tests:
1. Benchmarks for implementation: synthetic (SiSoftware Sandra 2005, SiSoftware Sandra 2007, PCMark 2004 1.3.0, PCMark 2005 1.2.0), office and multimedia (SYSmark 2004 SE, Business Winstone 2004, Multimedia Content Creation Winstone 2004), and games (3DMark 2001SE Pro, 3DMark 2003 3.6.0, 3DMark 2005 1.2.0, 3DMark 2006 1.0.2, Quake 3, Quake 4, Unreal Tournament 2003)
2. The evidence of battery life (Battery Eater Pro 2.60)
There three test modes in Battery Eater:
(* Classic the system is under a high and evenly distributed load)
* € Readerâ ™ s test (the pages browsed through each 15 seconds)
* Idle Mode
We used the first two modes as they are in the battery Eater, but in Idle mode (when the test utility doesn € ™ t put any burden of its own in the notebook) we played a DVD movie.
Conclusion
Michael Dell € ™ s team has done a good job again, it comes with an ultra-compact portable exciting optimized for today € ™ s life and travels. The only major drawback in the configuration of the Dell Inspiron XPS M1210 that we tested is the lack of a card discrete graphics that will no doubt make it even more attractive. Well, actually test the model is ready for the nomadic lifestyle that many of us have to drive. We called the ASUS W5F its core mobile Yonah an intellectual in our previous review, but the Dell Inspiron XPS M1210, even with integrated graphics is much more intelligent, no doubt!
This year's Merom will show us other ways, too. This core will have higher frequencies and to work under Santa Rosa platform, along with improved integrated graphics core. This sounds to us like a new leap in performance!
Highs:
* Excellent ultramodern design
* Excellent performance in office applications (not limited to whether the configuration includes a discrete graphics card)
* Abundance of wireless interfaces (including support for SIM cards)
* The exclusive TrueLife technology for better image quality
* The attractive and competitive price
* Widescreen high-resolution
* Relatively long battery life
Retirements:
* As a mirror display
* Poor performance in games
* Disadvantages of the placement of multimedia buttons
* Combo optical drive
* Instead too noisy
* Placement of USB ports dense (but itâ € ™ s good that there are at least four of them here!)

How much would a laptop computer that meets the minimum requirements of the Elder Scrolls 4: oblivion cost?
I really want to play oblivion on the PC, but my current laptop is not enough, and since it is a school-laptop problem, I can not change the hardware in any way. So can anyone tell me which meets the following requirements? Minimum system requirements for oblivion: In Windows XP, Windows 2000, Windows XP 64-bit 512 MB of RAM * 2 Ghz Intel Pentium 4 processor or equivalent 128 MB video card compatible with Direct3D and DirectX 9.0 compatible driver, 8x DVD-ROM 4.6 GB free disk space DirectX 9.0c (included) DirectX 8.1 compatible sound card Keyboard, Mouse
The minimum is a joke is not even close to what is needed to run smoothly: http://www23.tomshardware.com/graphics.html http://www.tomshardware.com/2007/07/16/cpu_charts_2007/ I have 2 GB of RAM, x2 4000 + and a 8800GTS running a few mods in oblivion in 1024 by 768 and my system choked up 30 fps (exterior) 50fps (the city) in all the details of WinXP. 25-30 fps is playable or higher. Obviously, changing the level of detail will increase the FPS, but nothing more 30fps you will not see a difference anyway. As for a laptop, which will be a little more difficult. It cost twice the price of a desktop that can run. So we are looking for a good U.S. $ 2,000 + to run oblivion with all the details.
