Three things you should know before buying a used or refurbished laptop
Laptops are more affordable than ever. Prices have fallen far enough to make laptops available to most consumers who need a laptop for school, work or personal use. Although are more affordable, buying a laptop is still a major investment. One way to soften the financial blow is by purchasing a used or laptop restored from either a private seller, a retailer or a trustee, which is to clean off lease laptops. While the price may be lower, There are many things consumers must learn before buying a used laptop. Shoppers must: know the seller, know the products, and know where to buy.
Meet the seller
There are only three types of use or refurbished laptop sellers: retailers, private sellers or scammers. It is imperative know who you are buying, because that determines how to handle the buying process. A deal with a private vendor so very different from an online retailer. Of course, if the online merchant is a reputable e-commerce site (examples below), then you should not need to worry about this, but there are some great deals that are online, if you get education and go outside standard computer stores. There are several flags red to watch out when determining the question (and if you should deal with them at all!)
-Check the feedback. Is there a feedback system on the site? If the seller seems to be a trader, have consistent track record provide the product you want to buy? If the seller seems to be an individual, Do they have more than one model for sale? It would be rare that a private seller must have more than one model for sale at a time - if they do, be suspicious.
-Check the payment method. Payment terms are odd or inconvenient? Do they only accept Western Union? (Never send money via WU to someone who does not know. There is no recourse if you have problems, and scammers know it!)
-Check the seller's location. If the seller is international, this should not be a red flag immediately, but if you are international and offer free shipping, this is an important warning signal. This will not be profitable for anyone, but a swindler.
-View the photos. Are there any real pictures of the laptop? In general, a con artist has no real product in hand to take pictures, but keep in mind that photos can easily blow a personal website. The absence of photographs of the actual product does not indicate a scam, but should be considered as part of the big picture.
-Check the time. Does the seller is in major trouble? This is an auction of 2-day? Legitimate vendors can also be a rush, but if you feel that the seller is actually running, be sure to take this into account.
-Check the agreement. You know what I always say "If it sounds too good to be true ..." I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but totally unbelievable deals that are not only - credible.
Conclusion: If you feel suspicious, listen to your gut. An individual who is trying to emerge as a retailer probably has holes in his story that can be exposed by the audit of the red flags. A private seller scam that is unlikely to have their ducks in a row well enough to pull a scam on an informed consumer.
Check out the products.
There is a difference between a laptop and use a refurbished (reconditioned, remanufactured) laptop. A used laptop is just that - used by another person for a certain period of time and now needs a new home. Perhaps the seller has cleaned up the scraps for sale, erase hard drives, and collected all manuals and original packing, but he may have done nothing about it. Refurbished, on the other hand, usually describes a book that has been returned to the manufacturer, repair, cleaning up, repackaged, and sent with a short warranty attached. These notebooks are usually sold by an online retailer, so often have the security of knowing that you may be able to hold them accountable for the problems (although you can be sure of this - to review their specific policies). Of course, "reconditioned" also come with a higher price tag, but you pay for that security. It is possible that a reformed system will have some scratches on the surface of light, but more often can not even say that the drive is ever used.
Some things to consider when buying a used (not refurbished) laptop:
"You probably have to buy a new battery. There are specific drainage and loading procedures for laptop batteries. More likely is that the seller does not always follow these procedures (anyone?). Make sure to take into account the price of a new battery when you buy as not affected with an unexpected cost after purchase.
"You really have no idea of what has been through a laptop. Laptops were created to be mobile. I really do not (and can not) know how many times she was beaten laptop, spilled on, walking, etc. While the seller is obliged to disclose known defects, you can be sure it is listening to the story. Undisclosed These accidents could cause problems down the line.
-Expect some scratches. With the move comes scratches, so depending on age, expect a certain amount of attrition. If you are prepared for this, not so disappointed. If it does not affect the team's performance, try not to worry about it.
Knowing where to shop.
While you can track any laptop site related to the possibility of selling ads, which also end up losing a lot of time that way! Instead, a handful of high traffic websites out there that have always used laptops and refurbished laptops for sale. Here are some:
http://ebay.com http://overstock.com http://tigerdirect.com/applications/overstock/ http://techdepot.com/clearance.asp http://notebookforums.com/forum25.html
If you are in the market for a used or refurbished laptop, you should take some time to become familiar with market conditions and the systems that tend to be available. If you Ebay is investigating to see some auctions to see how the bidding goes. Get very comfortable with prices used laptops before getting emotionally attached to any system. If you are shopping in a retail environment more like TigerDirect.com, you do not have to change prices as an auction, but the inventory changes often and if you do not see what you want now, keep checking back. Be sure to check return policies in reforming systems to prevent any possible remorse buyer is.
Used and refurbished laptops offer an excellent opportunity to get a nice laptop at a nice price. While prices that are much easier to swallow than the new units, buying used comes with a certain set of risks. Education is power here (and money in your pocket in the case of a scam), to stay ahead of the game and not rush into any de-good-to-be-true deal without making sure you know what you're getting. If you do your diligence due, you should end up with a quality system for a fraction of the price again.
