How can I leave my laptop running so my downloads finish overnight?

It seems like everytime I step away from my laptop, it locks up. Its good cuz no one can use it, but everything in the background (downloads, music) just stops, and thats not good because I need to download a few things over nights (movies XD).

Is there a specific setting or something that Im supposed to do? HELP

could be on standby or hibernate mode. heres what to do....

1. go to your garage/basement
2. get a bat or a hammer whatever you prefer.
3. go to your computer.
4. click start-control panel.
5. click classic view.
6. find power options
7. well im assuming you're going to have it plugged in overnight.
8. go to the column where it says plugged in (do u have XP? could be same for vista)
9. change everything to never.
10. if all else fails use the bat and beat your neighbors windows in and tell them you fell on your head when you were a baby and you get random spaz attacks. (it's believeable)
