Should I sell my laptop?

I'm a freshman in college and currently taking a break outside the school. My mom is stopped in order to pay support for the spring quarter I have to take the winter quarter to work full time and get an apartment on my own. I have absolutely no money since I was an idiot and blew all the money I saved. So now I'm stuck with limited options. I have a laptop, Dell Inspiron 1420 that I 2 years ago for Christmas. I love and is really useful for school, but the only thing I have is quite expensive for me at least $ 800. I'm selling some of my designer bags for a couple hundred each one too, but really need at least $ 400 to go towards the rent. I advertised on Craigslist and received bids for $ 800, but I am reluctant to sell it because its so good to have when I'm in school and depend on it so much. But they need right now and I'm not even sure if I want back to school, so I need some opinions. $ 800 or more for rent or a laptop ... HELP!
