Top Tips for Using Laptops on the Move
The number of people using laptops remotely whilst commuting or travelling has increased rapidly over the last 10 years. There’s a huge variety of different makes and models of laptops available so there are always new ones on the market. This doesn’t mean that you need to keep changing your laptop, you just need to ensure that you look after the one that you have so that it continues to work for you. Check out our top tips for maintaining and prolonging the life of laptops whilst out on the move.
Protect your laptop screen and keyboard
There are all manner of germs on your fingertips and laptop keyboard and if you use yours regularly, dirt will start to accumulate on the keyboard and on the screen. To keep laptops looking and working like new, invest in a protective cover for your keyboard. There are a number of keyboard covers around for laptops so you are sure to find one to fit your model. To prevent any cracks or scrapes on the screen of your laptop whilst you are on the move, why not use a protective piece of material to fit between your keyboard and screen. You could buy one from a shop or online, or you could fashion your own.Â
Be clever when charging your battery
If you use your laptop whilst commuting to work for example or you are a freelancer who travels regularly then keeping your laptop charged up is vital. If you haven’t got access to an electrical outlet then you need to use the power cleverly. One of the best things you can do is dim your screen to the lowest setting. The screen is where most of the power from your battery is drawn out from so keeping yours at a low level should help to keep your battery running for longer. It’s also a good idea to switch off any other functions which eat up battery power such as Bluetooth.
Pack laptops in adequate casing
If you spend time commuting to work, going to meetings or if you are a freelancer who travels to meet clients then your laptop is going to spend a lot of its being transported from place to place over your shoulder. To make sure that your laptop isn’t bumping around in your bag, you need to ensure that it’s properly packed and is as tight as possible. It would be a good idea to invest in a laptop bag or put it in a padded sleeve whilst you are travelling. The bag should have a layer of protection and a strap on the inside to keep your laptop from sliding around whilst being transported. There are a variety of bags for laptops on the market, some of them are very stylish whereas others are very simple and plain and it all depends on your personal taste and budget as to which one you go for. Whichever style you choose, you need to go for a bag that will fit snugly around your laptop.
So, if you travel a lot for business just follow our top tips above and your laptop should stay in pristine condition so you won’t have the hassle and expense of investing in a new one.

Is it true that if you leave a laptop charging for hours at a time the battery goes bad?
i just bought a new laptop and i just leave the battery charger plugged in like for hours b/c i dont want to worry about my battery running low while im on (since im on for like hours!) so does it go bad or something.
The funny thing about laptop batteries is that pretty much everything causes them to go bad. To start off they only have about 250/300 charges and discharges in them before they start to have problems. The second issue is that lithium ion battery that is not charged and uncharged regularly it will go bad.
Essentially, everything is bad for your battery and expect to have to buy a new one within 2 years unless you use it under ideal conditions. That would be to only charge it until its absolutely full, then to run the battery down until its absolutely empty.
