HP laptop battery charger?

Ok, so basically when I put my laptop charger to charge my laptop, my computer shuts down alone! Even though post and I disconnect, my computer will not turn back on what I have to wait about 5 minutes. Now the battery is exhausted, so can not activate at all. Not sure if the charger, battery, or the laptop itself. PLEASE HELP! Oh! and the laptop is a HP Pavilion dv4 should help:)
